In our first director series, Mason and Kyle go through the filmography of Spike Lee, watching and discussing six of his films leading up to DA 5 BLOODS. Spike Lee is one of the most underrated filmmakers in American cinema, whose distinct style and mastery of visual storytelling exceeds that of most of his contemporaries. His works span five decades, with at least one film being listed in “best of the dade” lists in the 80’s, 90’s, and 2000’s. Spike’s work is socially conscious and tells stories that open our eyes to systemic problems that effect people from all walks of life. Watch any Spike Lee Joint and you’ll be hard pressed not to look at yourself and those around you and question what more we could do to fight the powers that be in a society that stacks the deck against too many people. Listen as we deep dive DO THE RIGHT THING, MALCOLM X, CLOCKERS, 25TH HOUR, INSIDE MAN, BLACKKKLANSMAN, and DA 5 BLOODS.
